Honma Golf – Irons on Black

These irons are the same as the ones I play. They’re a forged club with a stunningly simple design, beautiful curves, and both chrome and matte finishes.
This makes the Honma’s a perfect subject to shoot. The overall goal was to isolate the clubs, suspended in air and focus on the curves, focus on the chrome, focus on the craftsmanship.
I took hundreds of photos with 3 different lenses – 90mm macro with and without additional extension tubes, 50mm with extension tubes, and a wide angle lens with extension tubes.
The wide angle produced some extreme angles. I was able to almost rest the lens on the back of the club and still capture the entire logo and back sole. Something that typically only happens with CGI.
